How to Keep Your Vacation Home Rental Clean and Organized

If you’re renting a vacation home in Florida for your family’s trip, you will want to treat it as if it’s your actual home! That means leaving it as clean as you found it and ready for the next family who will be renting it after you. Of course no one wants to spend their vacation cleaning and doing chores, but it will help if you quickly clean up after meals and activities. Here are some tips you can follow so you can feel at home by keeping your vacation home rental neat and clean.

1. Wash dishes as you go

If your vacation home rental doesn’t have a dishwasher, that means you will have to wash all dishes by hand. If you don’t wash up after each meal or every time you drink from a glass, those dishes will pile up in the sink and then it will become a chore that no one wants because it will take a while to clear the sink. Having each person wash their own dishes after they use them means always having a clean kitchen sink and no one has to spend an hour washing everyone else’s dishes.

2. Take out the trash

Have everyone in the house put all their trash in one garbage can instead of several trash cans throughout the home. This way no one has to go around the house collecting trash – there is only one bag of trash that will need to be set out on the curb for collection.

3. Take off shoes

Set a rule that everyone must take off their shoes before entering the house. Shoes can be kept outside the front door so any dirt on them will not make it into the house or in any of the bedrooms.

4. Pick up toys

If you have little ones running around, they will probably have toys with them that you brought from home or bought as souvenirs. Kids love to make a mess with their toys but no one wants to be tripping over them and there will be tears if toys get lost and left behind. Teach your children to pick up their toys after they are done playing and have a box or bag where they are kept at all times so nothing gets lost.

5. Beach clean up

Your family will definitely spend some time at the beach while in Florida, but wet swimsuits and sand everywhere can really make your vacation home rental feel more like a motel room. Make sure each family member showers and rinses off all the sand at the beach before hopping in the car to avoid trailing sand all throughout the house. Beach bags can be kept in the trunk of the car and hang up wet swimsuits outside if possible or in the bathroom so they don’t drip everywhere.
